Jamie Kalvestran - Scrap-Bags
An accomplished product designer,
published illustrator and with three design patents to her name, Jamie
Kalvestran is bringing her inspirational designs into textile, quilting, home
fashions and personal accessories. A graduate of the Minneapolis College of Art
and Design, Jamie holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in product design.
Jamie's professional design career spans over 20 years and includes designing
award winning toys at Tonka and Manhattan Toy, a stint as a costume designer at
the The Children's Theatre Company in Minneapolis, Minnesota and managing her
own wholesale business designing and selling her original designs to the
equestrian market.
An experienced quilter Jamie has developed a first hand appreciation for textile design. Jamie is currently the CEO of Kalvestran, Inc. and markets her original sewing patterns under the Scrap-bags™ label. The idea for Scrap-bags™ came at 5:00 am between sleeping and awake one morning. As a designer Jamie often gets ideas in dreams. But this was the first time that she received an entire product line at once, including the name of the product line and what the logo looked like! She then spent an entire year making and testing prototypes of her handbags before she wrote the first pattern. Today she offers her original Scrap-bags™ patterns through independently owned specialty retail quilt and fabric shops, as well as online, in both printed and downloadable formats.
