Uncle Paul's Quilting Company

I became an uncle for the first time in 1985.  It was also during the summer of '85 that I first sat down at a sewing machine.  My first attempt at a pair of "Jams" shorts was laughable at worst and a great learning experience at best.  I instantly fell in love with the creative process...feeling and selecting the fabric, cutting it up and then putting it back together again.  It was wonderful.  For the next five years I focused mainly on clothing construction to make cute outfits for the many nieces and nephews that followed from that first in 1985.  I even made my wife's wedding gown and blessing outfits for each of my four children.

In 1990, while watching PBS, I was first introduced to Eleanor Burns and decided to try my hand at quilting.  Twenty years later, I still use that first Double-Irish Chain quilt and have designed, pieced and quilted many others.  I always valued my grandmother's talent for hand quilting and cherish that a part of her lives on through me and this talent.  Of course, my “hands” can barely sew on a button…Thank heavens for my long-arm quilter.

During my 3 years as a quilt store owner my quilting knowledge grew exponentially.  Working with quilters of all skill levels and backgrounds truly influences my pattern designs.  I find that even the most advanced quilters want a great looking quilt they can always come back to and beginning quilters want easy quilts to make, but look like they are well beyond their skills.

As a result, my styles tend to skew toward the basic techniques, but with not-so-basic results.  As a working dad, if a project can't be completed in a weekend then I rarely will start it.  So, if you are looking for a quick project please check out one of my Uncle Paul's Quilting Company patterns.
