C McCourt Quilt Designs
I initially tried quilting in high school and again in college, but to no avail. Even after watching my mom and grandmother quilt for years, no luck. I just thought I did not inherit the quilting gene. So life went on job, husband and 4 kids. When my daughter was young all she would wear were dresses. So I asked for a sewing machine for my birthday so I could make her cute little dresses. Clothes aren’t as easy to make as I thought, found out it was easier to buy them at the store. I had to do something with this sewing machine, I couldn’t just let it sit. I thought hey let’s try quilting again. This time quilting clicked. I apparently had the gene all along, it was just hiding. That was in 2001. For 6 years I happily did other people’s designs. Then in the fall of 2007 I found some fabric and couldn’t find a pattern that called to me. So I bought it anyway and said I will design my own. That was the beginning of designing for me. In the spring of 2008 I was approached by local quilt shop owner Pat from Hickory Stick in Hannibal MO. She knew I had been designing some quilts and she asked me to design a quilt for a quilt she raffles of for the Tom and Becky Program. Thus C McCourt Quilt Designs was born. Since then I have been self publishing my patterns. I have also been published in 4 magazines in 2009. 1. Stars of the Heartland- Quilt magazine -June/July 2009 2. Vintage Cross- Fabric Trends –Fall 2009 3. Straight and Narrow- Quilt Sampler – Fall/Winter 2009 4. Christmas Patch Tree Skirt- Quilting for Christmas – Holiday 2009. I can’t wait to see what the future holds in quilting. I am looking forward to many more years of designing quilts.
